Description

JX Filtration offers a full range of wedge wire screens from standard flat panels to complex cylindrical, conical, and curved configurations, with flexible customization options to suit various slot sizes, dimensions, and material requirements across water treatment, mining, chemical, food, and petrochemical applications—precise, durable, and built for continuous operation.

A wedge wire screen, also known as a Johnson screen, Vee wire screen, or profile wire screen, is a metal filtration medium constructed from V-shaped (wedge) profile wires welded onto a framework of longitudinal support rods. The V-shaped wire profile—wider at the base and narrowing at the apex—creates a continuous, uniform slot that widens inwardly, allowing particles that pass the surface opening to flow through freely without becoming wedged. The result is a smooth, plug-resistant screen surface with exceptional structural strength and a large open area.

Wedge Wire Screen Manufacturer

Working Principle

  • Construction: The screen is manufactured by spirally winding the V-shaped surface profile wire around a set of longitudinal support rods positioned at regular intervals. Each intersection where the profile wire meets the support rod is welded through a specialized fusion welding process, creating a rigid, self-supporting structure. This construction eliminates the need for additional support structures in many applications.
  • Filtration & Separation: Material flows through the continuous slots formed between adjacent profile wires. The slot opening—defined as the gap at the narrowest point between two wires—determines the separation cut point. Because the slots widen from the surface inward, particles that enter are not trapped, and the screen maintains consistent permeability even under heavy solids loading. Flow direction can be configured as outside-in (standard) or inside-out depending on the application.
  • Self-Cleaning Behavior: The V-shaped wire design provides only two points of contact with particles, and the diverging slot geometry prevents wedging. The smooth outer surface also facilitates the release of retained solids during backwashing or mechanical cleaning, reducing downtime and maintaining throughput.

Advantages

  • High structural strength – The welded profile wire and support rod construction creates a rigid, self-supporting screen capable of withstanding heavy loads, high pressures, and mechanical impact without deformation
  • Clog-resistant V-shaped profile – The trapezoidal wire cross-section creates slots that widen inwardly, preventing particles from becoming wedged and ensuring smooth drainage
  • Precise, continuous slot opening – Slot sizes from 0.02 mm to 20 mm provide accurate, absolute size exclusion for fine screening and filtration
  • Large open area – The continuous slot design maximizes effective open area, resulting in low hydraulic resistance and high throughput
  • Corrosion-resistant construction – Available in stainless steel 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, duplex steel 2205/2507, Hastelloy, and titanium alloy for aggressive environments
  • Customizable geometry – Manufactured into flat panels, cylinders, cones, curved panels, and other custom shapes to suit specific equipment requirements
  • Long service life – Proven durability in demanding applications, with stainless steel screens lasting over 15 years in some installations
  • Low maintenance – No filter cloth or consumable media to replace; periodic cleaning is typically sufficient
